Reading Frenzy

I managed to devour three novels in 10 days. I know that's probably not saying much considering that some of you are speed readers and have a talent for finishing a book in two days or less. I'd like to know how you do it!

I'm quite proud of my accomplishment because I managed to read with a demanding toddler in tow. In between requests for juice, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, a baby sister and episodes of The Backyardigans (On Demand), I was able to read the following:
Second Chance, by Jane Green.

This novel is about four schoolmates who reunite after a terrorist attack claims the life of their friend Tom. Holly, Saffron, Paul and Olivia each discover something missing from their lives and they rekindle the bonds of their friendship, while trying to ease their struggles with life, death, love and marriage. The characters are lovable and honest, and the theme of the book is reminiscent of the post 9/11 world. I really enjoyed reading Second Chance.

Dedication, by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus

If you loved The Nanny Diaries and Citizen Girl, then you'll absolutely dig Dedication. Kate Hollis returns to her hometown in Vermont after her childhood pal Laura calls in the middle of the night to announce the arrival of Kate's high school sweetheart, now a rock star. Kate hasn't seen Jake Sharpe in 13 years, but feels compelled to confront the boy who broke her heart and used her personal life as song lyrics making him the mega star he is today. Dedication is filled with humor and leads towards an almost cliched ending but the authors gave a surprising and unexpected conclusion. I could not put this book down and my husband was very irritated that I was reading at all hours of the night just to find out what happened!

Goodnight Nobody, by Jennifer Weiner

As a longtime fan of Murder Mystery books, Goodnight Nobody satisfied my suspense-thriller taste buds, with a dose of hilarious chick lit. Kate Klein is an insecure housewife who trades her exciting life in New York City for stay-at-home-mother status in suburban Connecticut. Longing for something to fill her days other than playgroups and trying to fit in with the other uppity moms, Kate becomes involved in a local murder investigation when she discovers the body of her friend Kitty, and uncovers the secrets of Kitty's double life. Goodnight Nobody is full of plot twists that kept me guessing and found myself anticipating the ending. This is a novel I read cover to cover in two days; a must read!
Have you read any great books recently? Let me know in the comments. I'm always looking for new literature.

Ooooh, I love Jane Green but I haven't read Second Chance yet. Her other books are good too, as are Jennifer Wiener's.

I'm a total mystery addict, I love Peter Robinson, Ian Rankin and Anne Perry. And I just made my book group read In The Woods by Tana French. I have an obsession with dark British mysteries lately.

You are not helping me with my book "problem" at all! Now I must go and read all of these! LOL

I just finished "Bridget Jones's Diary" and was a bit disappointed. I'll be getting the movie this week to watch and see if it tickles my fancy any better.

Kudos! To three books in ten days! That's quite impressive!

Jerseygirl, Second Chance really was good. I did like and I still remember the story line, which is good! If I hate a book I don't remember a thing about it!

FC, you sound like me! I always have to read the books before I see the movies!
