As slowly as Spring arrives, it sure leaves in a hurry with Summer taking the lead. Along with the changing seasons, allergens make their way into our homes, attacking their sufferers with itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, wheezing and endless nose blowing.
My husband suffers from chronic allergies and our medicine cabinet is stocked with anti-histamines and decongestants year round. It's terrible when he gets hit with a bout of hayfever or an allergic reaction to ragweed, and I hate to see him suffer.
There are several other allergens that affect my husband as well as the usual culprits. Because we live in an older home (30+ years old) with the original furnace still operating, dust and other effectuates often cause allergy attacks for the Hubs.
I wasn't surprised when I learned that indoor air is four to five times more polluted than outdoor air, because most of us spend as much as 90% of our time indoors, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Keeping our home's indoor air quality high ensures my husband will be able to breathe more easily and suffer fewer symptoms.
Allergies and asthma go hand in hand in many cases, and the prevalence of both is on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control, asthma has become the most common serious chronic disease in children and the third-ranking cause of hospitalization for kids under 15.
One of the things we plan to do to eliminate allergens is to replace our furnace with a new, energy efficient, allergy reducing system and then installing an air purifying filter.
One of the systems recommended is American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning's AccuClean whole home air filtration system. AccuClean can be attached to your existing furnace or air handler, so you don't need to renovate your home to install it. Once installed, AccuClean removes allergens from the air in every room of the house, as opposed to plug-in air cleaners that operate in only one room.
AccuClean removes up to 99.98% all allergens in your home and the system removes more than 99% of the common flu virus. It's 100 times more effective than the standard one-inch filters and actually easy to clean by simply vacuuming or washing the reusable filter. Not only that, with reusable, cleanable filters, being Green and breathing easy never felt so good.
