I'm happy to say that in recent months I've been a lot smarter about remembering where my keys are so as to avoid unfortunate situations that require the assistance of a locksmith (which is very costly, let me tell you). But, I still worry that I'll be in too big of a hurry and will lock myself out in all the rushing around I do from day to day.
When the folks at Schlage asked me to try one of their keypad entry locks, I asked my husband if he thought it was a good idea and the man said yes before I finished my sentence. He hates having to worry about carrying around my spare keys "just in case" because he says he can barely remember his own stuff let alone mine.
When the lock arrived I was a little intimidated by it's weight. The deadbolt lock is heavy duty, you could call it "top notch security in a box". Doug couldn't wait to install it on our front door, but we don't have a deadbolt on our existing door so we decided to install it on our back garage entry door for trial purposes. (We've never had a key for that door so it's probably a good idea to install a new lock before all of our bikes are stolen.)
Schlage includes easy-to-follow directions and great diagrams, making the installation simple even for those who may not be mechanically inclined. Doug had no difficulty getting the lock installed on our door and I was able to follow along with the process as his handy assistant.
Some of the great features of a Schlage keypad deadbolt lock include:
- Innovative Turn Lock feature allows you to lock & leave without a key
- Provides the convenience of keyless access; customizable to fit your security needs
- Ideal for front doors, side & back doors, garage entry doors, etc.
- Easily replace most existing deadbolts with a screwdriver in about 30 minutes
- No programming required; preset with two user codes so it's ready to use right out of the box
The best feature of this keyless lock is that it operates by a 9 volt battery, meaning no electrical wiring is necessary. I was extremely happy to know that my husband wouldn't accidentally electrocute himself, or have to call his brother, an electrician, to wire electricity to our garage.
After the installation was complete, we were able to program a numeric security code that we could punch in to unlock and open the door. The lock came with preset codes, but we easily changed it to something much easier to remember. Because our spare garage houses my father's RV and my brother's Camaro, and my brother-in-law's moped in the winter months, we were able to provide each person with their own security code to gain access to the garage if we're not home. Talk about convenience! And safety! Our family members were happy to know that their vehicles are safe and secure and they can still get into the garage if necessary.
When I think of the Schlage company, the first things that come to mind are security and quality and we weren't let down. The deadbolt lock impressed us, we're thinking of using the keypad entry with flex lock (which comes with a door handle) when we replace our front door this fall.
Schlage is the leader in security devices, trusted for more than 85 years, and the company is dedicated to creating safe environments. Schlage is the only brand that spans both the commercial and residential markets and the company is on the forefront of developing cutting-edge technology and innovation such as wireless security products, biometrics, and CCTV among others.
A Schlage keypad lock retails for approximately $138.00, and you can find these great products at Lowe's, Home Depot, and Menard's. For more information on Schlage products, please visit their website.
