Lunchables: New and Improved

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central on behalf of Oscar Mayer Lunchables and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Have you tried the new Lunchables yet? According to my almost 5-year-old son, they are "really, really good!" When Mom Central sent us the coupon to try a sample, we were thrilled. We did have some trouble finding them at our local grocery store, however. Apparently they were so new that the store hadn't gotten them in yet.

After visiting 3 different grocery stores, we finally found one that only carried the Dish Cheese Pizza so we thought we'd give it a try.

The new package design is great. With an upper plastic tray to hold the pizza crust and cheese, and a lower compartment holding the tomato sauce, mini-Nilla Wafers, bottle of water, Kool-Aid single packet, apple sauce and spoon, it was easy to open and assemble the pizza. Dawson loved putting the tomato sauce and cheese on the crust, but his favorite part was mixing the Kool-Aid powder in the bottle of water. He shook it up and said it was Cherry and delicious.

I was impressed by how easy it was for him to eat his lunch without making a mess. As a mom to a pre-kindergartner, one with picky tastes to boot, I often struggle with finding healthy lunches that Dawson will actually eat and enjoy. He'd eat chicken nuggets every day if I let him.

Thankfully, Lunchables are one of his favorite lunch choices. I'm eager to try the other five varieties which include: Turkey + Cheddar Sub Sandwich, Ham + American Sub Sandwich, Turkey + Cheddar Cracker Combos, Ham +American Cracker Combos, and Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza. Both the Turkey + Cheddar Sub Sandwich and Deep Dish Cheese Pizza (the one we chose) meet the Kraft Foods Sensible Solution criteria for nutritional value.

The product line also offers the following enhancements:

· First-ever sub sandwich

· Turkey made with 100% turkey breast: a good source of protein

· Bread made with whole grain

· Kraft 2% cheddar: an excellent source of calcium

· Applesauce

· Dessert like Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies and Mini Nilla Wafers
The new Lunchables are now on our favorites list! Thanks Oscar Meyer and Mom Central for this great opportunity!
